Mark’s career in theatre has spanned more than two decades, and now blends producing, writing and directing with a passion for bringing entertainment and education to audiences of all ages.

He began his journey in 2000 with the hugely successful Tweenies Live! international arena tours, marking the start of his long-standing involvement in children’s theatre. This early experience set the stage for Mark to work on a wide variety of beloved children's brands in various capacities, including Bob the Builder Live!, Noddy Live, Balamory Live, Cartoon Network Live, Thomas & Friends Live!, Milkshake! Live!, Guinness World Records and many others taking these shows to audiences across the world and reaching over 3 million people.

Mark has been honoured to be trusted with some of the world's biggest names and institutions having created educational live shows for BBC’s Hidden World, London’s Science Museum, Mishkat Centre for Renewable Energy in Saudi Arabia, British Council, Eden Project, P&O Cruises, Culture Tech Festival, Croucher Foundation, London’s Natural History Museum and many others ensuring that entertainment and education can be one. Most notably, Mark created the Ministry of Science brand, which tours annually across the world blending science and theatre in a fun and engaging way. Ministry of Science Live made its West End debut in 2023 when it took over London’s Savoy Theatre to capacity audiences.

As a family producer Mark’s tours and shows continue to be a staple of UK theatre and in 2025 can be seen in over 430 venues across the UK. These include: Milkshake! Live on Holiday, Natural History Museum presents Dinosaurs Live, Tom Fletcher’s The Dinosaur that Pooped a Rock Show, Ministry of Science Live, Science Museum The Live Stage Show, Tom Gates EPIC Stage Show and Fireman Sam Live.

In addition to his many touring productions, Mark has also produced over 15 years of pantomimes, bringing the magic of this beloved tradition to audiences across the country.

Beyond his production work, Mark has also managed some of the UK’s most loved live entertainment venues, including the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe, the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple and the Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare. Under his leadership, the Playhouse flourished, becoming a central hub for live entertainment in the region and doubling its annual box office.

Mark set up Mark Thompson Productions Limited to consolidate his work and has gone on to create children's shows worldwide.
